State of Nature

There’s more of this to come trickling out as I handle the editing portion. All that remains to be uploaded are respiffed versions of old stuff. I’ll also sort out a cover at some point.

Many thanks to the denizens of the Maplewood house for the use of their recording equipment, and in particular to Mr. Jeff Phillippe for the use of his kit.

Please note here that, as with all of my “work,” I recorded all of this on my own, and most of it on the first take. Hopefully this explains why it is rubbish.

Nowhere (version 1) (version 2)
Running Time: 4:04 / 4:03
Approximate date of recording: 21-22 August 2008 / 23, 31 December 2008
Notes: If you’ve been paying attention to the front page, you can probably sort out what this song is named for. Don’t turn it up too loud, for there is a burst of feedback a couple of minutes in. Forgive me. I just love feedback.

Only the guitar tracks remain in the second version.  Better drums (both performance and recording) and bass have been added.

Common Snow (download)
Running Time: 4:15
Approximate date of recording: January 2001, 22 August 2008
Notes: Respiffed. I don’t really have anything to add that I didn’t say before.

Bridges (version 1) (version 2)
Running Time: 6:19 / 6:12
Approximate date of recording: March 2008, 22 August 2008 / 23, 29-31 December 2008
Notes: Another one that I’ve been kicking around seemingly forever. I apologize for the triple guitar lead. I am getting indulgent in my advancing age.

In version two, rather than apologize for the triple guitar lead, I have removed it.  In fact, version two is entirely re-recorded, with similar improvements as were made to “Nowhere.”

And On (download)

Running time: 6:34
Approximate date of recording: 22-23, 30-31 December 2008
Notes: This was composed on the tenth anniversary of my owning a guitar.  Having recently acquired a bass of my own, I decided it was time to revisit it.
