Better Living Through Epistemology

So here it is, the long promised (is it? I don’t really know.) follow up to last year’s collection of castoffs and old garbage. Posted six months to the day after the last song of Early Retrospective was uploaded. How’s that for timing? I present to you now the passable artwork that shall comprise the “cover,” which can be clicked to see a slightly larger version:

So I guess this is where I show you the songs and describe them and whatnot.

Retread (download)
Running Time: 3:03
Date of Recording: 12-13 July 2006
Notes: So named because it’s pretty much in keeping with everything I’ve written in the last couple of years. Except that it has more guitar tracks. I wrote this one shortly after reassembling my guitar, mostly by accident. I find it not altogether unpleasant, and I figure “harmless” is as good a way as any to start off a record.

Deviation (download)
Running Time: 3:13
Date of Recording: 13 July 2006
Notes: Really, this isn’t done, but I’ve been kicking the main riff around for over a year and I’m just entirely sick of playing it, so I figured, why not record it, slap a bit of a Leslie effect over the top, and call it good? And so it was. Also, I’m not quite sure why you can hear the metronome going, given that it’s a digital metronome that theoretically only existed in my headphones. But whatever.

Convention (download)
Running Time: 3:42
Date of Recording: Approx. 8 September 2007
Notes: Aptly titled, I think, but pleasant enough. The sheer number of takes I needed to get the solo (oh yes, this is the return of the guitar solo! Weep!) down is a testament to how bad I’ve gotten at playing the guitar. Alas. In my defense, I was in unfamiliar territory, theoretically (literally).

Patience (download)
Running Time: 4:04
Date of Recording: 25 August 2007
Notes: I love tremolo. There’s not much more to say about it.

More to come, most likely slowly and painfully.
